Meet the Chapter Leaders
Maud Masiyiwa is a serial Social Entrepreneur with a passion for Empowerment through Tourism. She holds a Postgraduate qualification in Responsible Tourism Management, plus various business management and community development qualifications. She has worked for both wholesale and retail travel and tourism related businesses across East Africa, Southern Africa, and North America. In 2001, she established a retail travel agency in the Sandton City Mall Johannesburg and during the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002; her company was selected as the preferred agency to provide travel support to the visiting delegates. It was after the aftermath of the Summitt that her interest in environmental issues, climate change, tourism sustainability was birthed. So in 2022 she enrolled for the 2-year diploma course with SUNx Malta through ITS Malta and she is currently in her internship year and leading the Chapter in Zimbabwe.
Ropa is a hospitality leader with over 10 years of experience in
high-end lodges and resorts. She boasts a BSc. Degree in Tourism and
Hospitality Management and 2 MSc. qualifications in Strategic Management
and Tourism. In 2023 she was awarded a full scholarship to study towards
a PG Diploma in Climate Friendly Travel through SUNx Malta in
collaboration with ITS Malta.
She is the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe's Representative for
Masvingo and the Deputy General Manager for Ancient City Lodge in
Masvingo. Ropa isn't just passionate about guest service, she is also
the holder of the Megafest Platinum Award for Customer Focus of the
Year.
Climate change action is a cornerstone of her approach. She continuously
trains staff
on sustainable practices and encourages hotels to register their climate
change initiatives. Ropa's dedication to environmental responsibility
ensures a thriving tourism industry for the future, with a vision that
extends beyond exceeding expectations and community inclusion, through
the Climate Friendly Travel Chapter where she is also a Chapter Leader.
Cynthia N Moyo-Sibindi holds an Honors Degree in Development Studies.
She is an earth warrior and very passionate about restoring climate
justice. She has been an environmental activist for the past 10 years.
With roots in social justice activism and community mobilization she has
delivered interactive presentations on climate injustices. She has
engaged with communities and key stakeholders on solutions towards
climate justice restoration. Her goal is for communities to realise
that they are not only on the frontlines of climate crisis but that they
are also on the frontlines of change and can influence solutions to
address climate change.
